Barchester Towers Railway - Progress, November 2005

This month the line finally has its our own motive power.

Here it is just as we unloaded it from its 650km journey from Yenda.
Although it was getting late when we arrived, we could not resist a quick test run of the driving tender.

We can't wait for the chance to give the locomotive an overhaul so we can get it running on the line during the Christmas holidays. In keeping with its agricutural origins, it is powered by a small four-stroke engine driving a centrifugal clutch and a rotary hoe gearbox. The machine was built by the the late Mr. Stan Leaver of Yenda. He used to run mainly at Yanko in south west of NSW.

Of course as soon as it is in service, and we work out how to easily get it into and out of the van, we shall be running at Narara. Hope to see you there sometime.

We hope it's not too long until we can add a photo of a train going uphill with everyone riding rather than pushing!
