Payphones

At East Coast Telephones we have a variety of payphones for all your needs. As well as supplying new payphones from several reputable manufacturers, we also buy and sell used payphones. We also install and service payphones in Sydney and throughout Australia in cooperation with our extensive network of associated dealers and service contractors.

Choosing your payphone. In choosing a payphone, the most important consideration is the environment in which it will operate. Will someone be watching it all the time, for example on a bar or counter? If so then you could choose from any of the payphones on this page. If the phone is out of the direct sight of a responsible person but it would only be available for use during the time that a shop or school is open and you would notice if anyone tried to remove it, then you could select any phone from the semisupervised or unsupervised lists. If the phone will be accessible to the public and out of sight earshot of a responsible person during any part of the day then only a phone designed for unsupervised locations would be suitable.

Careful selection of a place to mount your phone will reduce the risk of theft or vandalism and thus allow you a greater choice of phone.

Having selected the correct class of phone you should next consider its appearance: you need it to be noticed in the shop! The following table allows you to select suitable phones for your application.

June 2002 update: Our range is being revised. Some of the pictured phones may be now be available only as fully refurbished units, and equivalent new model payphones for all of these applications are also available.

Coming soon: card-operated payphones. These phones accept a smart card rather than coins so that there are no coins to attract thieves. It can also save you the trouble of providing coins to your customers so that they make calls from your night club or similar venue. The cards could be those sold by one of the telephone carrier companies, or perhaps ones that you issue to your customers.
