This page is a draft version of the NPA Walks Program for January-February, 2002. The intention is to show non-members the range of activities offered by the NPA. For this reason details about how to book on the walks have been removed.

25 Dec 01 Tue      Blue Mountains NP

Picnic lunch. Wentworth Falls Lake. Come and relax beside the lake. Bring your own lunch (electric BBQs). Hot drinks provided, fast turn up any time between 10am to 4pm. One km from Station along Sinclair Crescent. Optional extra, a 4km wander around the reserve.

27 Dec Tue  Sydney Harbour NP

Easy/med day walk 6-10km. ferry to Rose Bay, walk to Watson's Bay then South Head. Possible swim, visitors and kids welcome, can shorten walk

28-30 Dec Fri/Sun  Shoalhaven River

Flat water paddle 24km, short walks. Paddle to Fossicker's Flat on the magnificent Shoalhaven River. Camp from canoes. Time to relax and recover from Christmas. Experienced paddlers can paddle to the camp site between these dates or earlier in the Christmas break and join us. Swimming, canoe hire available, PFDs compulsory.

29 Dec Sat   Wollemi NP

Med day walk 250m asc 12km track, canyon, rock hopping sc rambling. cars into Wollemi, 2 canyons (you only get your feet wet) plus interesting slot chasm. Deep Pass plus river caves, canyons. Two easy canyons and interesting rock formations plus "the green room" a very attractive area!

29 Dec - 2 Jan Sat/Wed   Blue Mountains NP

Pack walk 600m asc 20km off track. The annual New Year trip to a great camping site on the Kowmung, a truly magnificent bushwalkers resort (members only). Options for coming all, several or more days.

2-7 Jan Wed/Mon 02      Murray River

Canoe 152km over 5 days fast flowing flat water. Touring trip on the Upper Murray from Bringenbron Bridge to Talmalmo, Hume Weir. This trip is renowned for fast clear flowing water, low, timbered and grassy banks, the ever changing panorama of hills and mountains and excellent camping sites, three near pubs. Some canoe experience necessary. PFDs compulsory.

2 Jan Wed   Sydney Harbour NP

Day walk 50m asc 10km on rocky and slippery track in places. Manly to Spit plus extras. Manly Ferry, Circular Quay

5 Jan Sat    Royal NP

Day walk 400m asc 18km rock hopping, swimming and on tracks. Waterfall Station to Sutherland Station via Uloola Falls, Karloo Pool, Kangaroo Creek, Audley, Bungoona Lookout and Temptation Creek. Cool walk at a hot time of year. Plenty of short swims depending on weather conditions ie. longer swim s if it's hot. Expect to get wet one way or another.

5 Jan Sat    Berowra Valley

Easy/med day walk approx 200m 13km on tracks, some steep sections. Galston Gorge to Berowra via Crosslands. Car shuffle. Early start. Beautiful bush and views of Berowra Creek, limit 10

6 Jan Sun   Illawarra SRA

Easy/med on tracks 250m asc, 12km. walk to plateau and Kelly's Falls and lookouts over Hacking River. Return to station, views.

5-6 Jan Sat/Sun    Carrington Falls

Base camp at cars 300m asc 8km each day max. Rainforest v alley scrub moorland. proceed to Carrington Falls. Day 1 - Barren Grounds - Gerringong Falls. Day 2 - Missingham Steps (fern gully) beautiful swimming holes both days

6-18 Jan     Upper Murray River

Canoeing, Grade 1 flat water. Corryong, Tintaldra, Jingel lic, Talmalmo, Albury. A summer holiday on the water. Paddling from Corryong to headwaters of Lake Hume and then to Albury, possibly Albury to Corowa. Some river camping, some camping grounds. Suitable for Canadian canoes.

8 Jan Tue   Royal NP

Easy day walk, picnic 4-6km. walk to Bombora for picnic, bring some nice food to share. Visitors and kids welcome, swim.

9 Jan Wed  Sydney Harbour NP

Day walk 20m asc 12km tracks, rocky, slipper in places. Cremorne Point to Balmoral, swimming. Cremorne

12 Jan Sat   Megalong Valley

Day walk 800m asc 17km. Green Gully, Ironpot Mtn, Ironmonger Spur, Coxs River, Scrubbers Hill, Breakfast Creek, Green Gully. Mostly on tracks, river crossing, partly exploratory. Swimming spots, steep desc/asc  

12 Jan Sat   Blue Mountains

Day walk 300m asc 14km tracks, creeks, off-track. Day walk through Erskine Creek with several stops for swims, the classic way to spend a summer's day

Day walk 14km 240m asc 3km rock hopping.  Heathcote Station to Karloo Pool, Kangaroo Creek, Head of Navigation, Robertson's Knoll, Audley, Loftus Station. Swimming in Kangaroo Creek

12-13 Jan Sat/Sun  Blue Mountains NP

Two day pack walk: D1 100m asc 18km on tracks. 400m a sc 7km along creek and on tracks. Megalong Valley, Six Foot track to Coxs River, down river to Breakfast Creek, up Breakfast Creek, Carlon Creek to Carlon's Farm. Typical Coxs River scenery, scenic part of Six Foot track, along Breakfast Creek (one of the best walks in the Blue Mountains)

Sat 12 - Sun 20 Sat/Sun   Snowy Mountains

A week of easy to medium mountain walks, or swimming, sailing, canoeing on the lake as weather permits. Budget accommodation and equipment available if required. Come along for all or part of a nice lay back week.

Easy/med day walk 280m asc 10-12km. Neate's Glen, Grand Canyon, Evans Lookout, Neate's Glen

19 Jan Sat   Eastern Suburbs Ramble

12km day walk, asc 250m total. Cooper Park, Bellevue Hill , Rose Bay, Hermitage trail, Nielsen Park (swim/lunch), Parsley Bay

19 Jan Sat   Royal NP

Day walk 800m asc 18km rock hopping, swimming and track walking. Waterfall Station to Otford Station via Uloola Track, Couranga Track, Forest Path, Garrawarra, Burning Palms, Figure Eight Pool and Werrong. Cool walk at a hot time of year. Some short swims and maybe some long swims if it's hot. Some creek walking and rock hopping. Expect to get wet one way or another. Bring plenty of sunscreen.

20 Jan Sun   Wollemi NP

Day walk and river li-lo 500m asc 8km track and river. Mountain Lagoon, T3 track, Tootie Creek and Colo River return. Enjoy a cool li-lo trip down a mile section of the Colo River, short but steep walk to and from river, a great fun trip for a summer's day.

20 Jan Sun  Heathcote NP

14km 200m asc, tracks, 2km of-track. Walk from Waterfall to Boobera Pool on the Woronora River via Kingfisher Pool, Bullawaring Track, Lake Eckersley and Pipeline Track to Heathcote. Swimming.

19-20 Jan Sat/Sun  Blue Mountains NP

Med day walk plus base camp with cars, approx 500m asc 12 km on tracks with steps, ladders and steep sections.  National Pass/Wentworth Pass with car camp at Ingar. BBQ after walk. Lazy Sunday with brunch at camp. Walking at a relaxed pace with spectacular scenery. Limit 8

20-21 Jan Sun/Mon Morton NP (Budawangs)

Med 2 day pack walk - Day 1: 300m asc, Day 2: 100m asc, 2 0-25km. Wog Wog entrance, Corang Peak, Corang Arch, Corang River (splash about a t many rock ribs), Goodsell Basin.  Some off track walking and some rough ground (beware hakeas!) Bring memorable food and wine for Saturday night (but watch out f or fire bans). Limit 6

22 Jan Tue  Botany Bay NP Part 2

Easy/med day walk 10-12km. walk via cliffs, beaches to Maroubra. Swim. Visitors welcome

24-26 Jan Thur/Sat Morton NP

Easy canoeing . Lake Yarrunga/Tallowa Dam.  One of the nicest flat water paddles in NSW. Easy paddling, wonderful scenery, good shady campsite and plenty of swimming

26 Jan Sat   Brisbane Water NP

Easy day walk 200m asc 10km on beach, track and fire-trail, 2 steep climbs. Patonga to Pearl Beach via Warrah Trig and Warrah Lookout.  Ferry Brooklyn to Patonga and water taxi back. Wonderful views of the Hawkesbury River. A lovely way to celebrate Australia Day.

Med 7km walk along Georges River, swimming 

27 Jan Sun  Lower Blue Mountains  

Easy day walk 360m asc 10km on tracks, lots of steps, up and down. Martin's Lookout to Lost World via the Link Track.  Views, swimming, steep descent and ascent (both ways). Come and hear the story about the cross and read the 23rd Psalm.

25-28 Jan    Kanangra Boyd NP

4 day pack walk 35km tracks/trackless. Gap Camp Gully, Kowmung River, Sombre Dome, Mt. Savage, Uni Rover Trail. Come along on this classic summer walk down the wonderfully scenic Kowmung River. The pace will be such that there will be plenty of time to swim in as many of the superb pools as possible. Do the odd bit of fishing/exploring and generally enjoy what this captivating wilderness area has to offer.

2 Feb Sat    Royal NP

Day walk 400m asc 16km rock hopping and scrambling, beach and track walking. Stanwell Park station to Bulgo via coast, continue to Werrong, Figure 8 Pool, Burning Palms and then to Otford via Palm Jungle Track.  Beautiful piece of coastline rarely seen due to difficulty of terrain. Watch the hang gliders and paragliders from the bottom of Bald Hill. Walk the rugged rocks below spectacular cliff lines and see remote beaches visited only by those that know they exist. Good rock hopping training for those wishing to go on more exciting and remote walks.

2 Feb Sat    Wollemi NP

River li-lo Meroo to Upper Colo River Bridge. A very cool and relaxing way to spend a summer's day. A short easy walk to Meroo followed by a leisurely float down the river. Plenty of opportunities to cool off and a swim . Suitable for all ages.

2 Feb Sat    Sydney Harbour NP

Easy day walk 8km on footpaths and tracks. Rose Bay to Watson's Bay, including South Head. Wonderful harbour and ocean views. Limit 10

3 Feb Sun   Garigal NP

Day walk undulating 14km on track, one creek crossing. Two Creeks track, Lockley track, Middle Harbour track, cascades and return. Historic interest (Gov.Phillip's expedition campsite 1788) - scenic.

3 Feb Sun   Wollemi NP

Canyon 300m asc 7km mostly pools in canyon. Joes, Du Faur and Bell Creek canyons.  The best parts of three great canyons near Mt.Wilson. A li-lo is needed by each person but there are no abseils .

2-3 Feb Sat/Sun    Beecroft Peninsula

Car camp. Base camp at Holiday Haven Tourist Park, Currarong. Easy walks at the beautiful Abraham's Bosom and, if open, Honeymoon Bay. Fees apply. Limit 15

5 Feb Tue   Warringah Coast Walk Part 1

Easy/med coast walk 10-12km. walk via coast to Manly. Swim.

6 Feb Wed  Lane Cove Valley         Great North Walk

Day walk 10m asc 14km tracks, rocky and slippery.  Epping t o Fullers Bridge.

6 Feb Wed  Blue Mountains NP

Walk and lilo 250m asc 14km firetrail, track and creek. Woodford, Bedford Creek, Murphy s Glen, Woodford.  Summer walk with a difference! Walk from Woodford, lilo down the chilly waters of Bedford Creek, return to Woodford via Murphy s Glen & Serpentine Track. Numbers limited

9 Feb Sat    Blue Mountains NP

Easy day walk 14km road/track.  Start and finish Hazelbrook Station. Adelina Falls, Terrace Falls, Junction Falls, Federal Falls and Bedford Pool circuit. This walk involves several kms of road walking at start and finish but visits several delightful waterfalls amongst the rainforest

9 Feb Sat    Royal NP

Early morning birdwatch and BBQ breakfast, 2km on tracks.  We will arrive at sunrise and bird the Wattle Forest area and Lady Carrington Drive before enjoying a late BBQ breakfast and departure. Bring binoculars and your own food requirements.

Easy, mostly tracks undulating. Walk to Little Marley and Deer Pool, return via Big Marley to Wattamolla Beach, swimming.

10 Feb Sun  Blue Mountains NP

Med day walk 400m asc 22km fire trail and off track. Mt. Banks, Edgeworth David Head, Mt. Caley, Mt. Strzelecki.  A long walk in Explorers Range. Mostly fire trail, some off track. Heavy going through thick scrub with Lawyer Vine.

10 Feb Sun  Bouddi NP

Easy/med day walk 200m asc 14km varied tracks. Maitland B ay, Putty Beach, Box Head.  Great views of coast, Hawkesbury River and Brisbane Water. Swims at delightful secluded beaches. Cars from Woy Woy station. Ideal summer walk.

9-10 Feb Sat/Sun   Morton NP        (Budawangs)

Medium long 2 day pack walk Day 1: 150m asc, Day 2: 150m asc, 35km  Sassafras entrance, Newhaven Gap, Folly Point, return. All on track (one tricky ravine), some road walking (yuk), may need to carry all water. Sunset/sunrise over Holland's Creek Gorge makes the road bash, rock stepping worthwhile! Limit 6

9-10 Feb Sat/Sun   Morton NP

Paddle, flat water 16km, all gear in canoes, exploratory walks.  Camping and exploring Danjera Dam and gold mine. Bring torch. Swimming. Beautiful isolated campsite.

12 Feb Tue  Sydney Harbour NP Part 2

Easy/med day walk 10km. circular walk via Shelly and Collins Beaches. Swim.

13 Feb Wed South Sydney Beaches

Day walk 20m asc 14km tracks, rocky and slippery. Coogee Beach to La Perouse. Swimming

Day walk 100m asc 12km on tracks. Garie Beach to Burning Palms Beach via Era Beach return. Scenic walk along the coast with time to enjoy the ocean views and swim at 3 of Royal NP s best beaches.

17 Feb Sun  Royal NP

19km 100m asc tracks, 500m off track. Walk from Waterfall down Couranga Track to Forest Island rainforest circuit and then to Palona Cave . Walk back via National Falls and Couranga Track to Waterfall.

16-17 Feb Sat/Sun  Morton NP

Car base camp at Lake Conjola.  Day 1: Green Island or Narrawallee Nature Reserve 5-10km firetrails beaches rocks. Choice depends on tides. Day 2: Pigeon House Mountain 7km 400m asc track , steel ladders at top. If unable to camp drive to walks. Walk one or both days. Swimming.

16-17 Feb Sat/Sun  Ku-ring-gai Chase NP

Base camp plus easy/med day walks 10km each on tracks and beach (some steep sections)

Camp at the Basin, day walks to Barrenjoey and West Head, using the Palm Beach ferry. Small camping and parking fees. Views of Pittwater. Leave cars at Palm Beach.

19 Feb Tue  South Coast Part 1

Easy/med day walk 10km. walk to Thirroul via cliffs, beaches, swim.

20 Feb Wed Blue Mountains NP

Med day walk 150m asc 11km mostly on track; some creek work.  Springwood, Glenbrook Creek, Blaxland.  Down Magdala Creek; explore the secluded pools of Glenbrook Creek, then up to Blaxland. Swimmers delight! Numbers limited .

Day walk 150m asc 10/12km tracks, rocky and slippery. Glenbrook Causeway to Crayfish Pool

23 Feb Sat   Royal NP

12km 100m asc rock hopping, tracks and beaches. Walk from Werri Beach near Gerringong to Geroa and part of Seven Mile Beach along headlands, beaches and rock platforms. Magnificent coastal scenery and swimming.

24 Feb Sun  Lane Cove River Valley

Easy day walk 50m asc 18km all on Tourist tracks, some street walking. Hunters Hill to Fullers Bridge on west side of river and return on east side.

24 Feb Sun  Wollemi NP

Day walk 500m asc 8km all on tracks. Grassy hill fire trail, Canoe Creek, Colo River and return. A nice but steep (all track) walk to a beautiful section of Colo River. Plenty of time for a swim and some exploring.

24 Feb Sun  Lake Illawarra Cycleway

55km flat cycle with one short steep grade mainly cycleway, short road section. Bicycle from Berkeley to Bass Point around Lake Illawarra and including Black Butt Forest and return via short direct route.

23-24 Feb Sat/Sun  Barrington Tops NP

2 day walks 70% tracks/trackless. Wangat River & Williams River.  From a biological point of view the Barrington Tops region is a treasure chest, with a wealth of plant and animal life. Also from a walker's perspective the area has many charms not the least being countless pools to swim in, and rivers and tracks to explore - then of course there is the rainforest, fantastic

23 Feb - 3 Mar Sat/Sun    Northern Rivers

Paddle white water, Grade 1 & 2 rapids.  Paddle on Macleay and other northern rivers, maybe some camping from canoes, no sea kayaks, no beginners, experienced novices welcome. PFDs and helmets compulsory. Trip depends on river heights.

26 Feb Tue  South Coast Part 2

Easy/med day walk 6-14km. walk to Wollongong or shorten via beaches. Cycle track, swim.

27 Feb Wed Southern Sydney Branch Presents           "Provence to the Pyrenees"

11-20 March Australian Alps

Full pack walk 10 days, many small ascs, 700m asc for most of day 9. 230km mostly on tracks, short sections off track. Thredbo, The Cobberas, Mt. Pendergust, Mitta Mitta River, Mt. Wills, Mt. Bogong, Mt. Beauty. Highlights include the rocky peaks of The Cobberas, peaceful alpine valleys with snow gums, the Mitta Mitta River and the treeless summit of Mt.Bogong. Lots of great views along the way.

21-26 March Bogong NP Vic.

Five days full pack walk, small ascs and one long climb on day 1 of 1,600m, 100km mostly on tracks. Mt.Beauty, Mt. Bogong, Bogong High Plains, Mt. Hotham, Mt. Feathertop, Mt. Beauty. Alpine herbfields and great views are the main highlights of this walk. Camp amongst the snowgums near huts built by cattlemen early last century.

23-30 Mar Sat/Sat  Kosciuszko NP

8 day full pack walk 116km track and off-track. Kiandra, Jagungal, Gungarten, Mt.Twynam, Mt.Kosciuszko, Thredbo. A classic walk across the roof of Australia, crossing our four highest peaks on the way. No flies, beautiful weather and crisp swimming in high alpine tarns and creeks! Numbers limited so book early. Quiet walkers welcome.

23 Mar Sat   Six Foot Track in a Day

It is on again! A distance of 46km and an ascent of 1100m make this a testing day walk. Accommodation is booked at Jenolan for Saturday and dinner is arranged for the evening. A great weekend for everyone. Supporters and helpers are especially welcome.

20 Apr Sun  Woodford to Glenbrook Social Walk 

Several walks of various grades ending up at Glenbrook for a BBQ dinner. A great way to do a walk and then enjoy the company of other NPA walkers at dinner. Supporters and helpers are especially welcome.

18-26 May Sat/Sun  Mittagong to Katoomba

A classic walk! Nine days, 160km, 4000m vertical. Lots of fun and a great sense of achievement. Come for the entire walk or join us in Yerranderie for our rest days

7-14 July    West MacDonnell NP

8 day pack walk 95km + optional sidetrips 80% tracks. Brief trip route: Serpentine Gorge, Ochre Pits, Ormiston Gorge, Glen Helen Gorge, Redbank Gorge, Mt.Sonder
